Early Life and Career
Tom Thomson was born in 1877 in Claremont, Ontario. He studied art at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. After graduating, Thomson worked as a commercial artist and illustrator. In 1912, he moved to Algonquin Park, where he began to develop his own unique style of landscape painting.
The Group of Seven
In 1913, Thomson met J.E.H. MacDonald, who invited him to join a group of artists known as the Group of Seven. The Group of Seven was a loose association of Canadian landscape painters who shared a common interest in depicting the Canadian wilderness. Thomson quickly became one of the leading members of the group.
Artistic Style
Thomson's landscapes are known for their vibrant colors and dynamic compositions. He often used bold, contrasting colors to create a sense of tension and excitement. His paintings are also characterized by their strong sense of movement. Thomson often depicted the wind blowing through trees or the waves crashing against rocks.

Tom Thomson died tragically in 1917. He was canoeing on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Park when he disappeared. His body was never found. Thomson's death has been the subject of much speculation. Some believe that he drowned, while others believe that he was murdered.
