About the Author
Dika Ofoma Umeh is a Nigerian American writer and activist. She is the author of the memoir Memoir of Flying Turtles, Colonial Ghosts, and the Making of Nigerian American, which was published in 2023.
Umeh was born in Nigeria and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was a child. She grew up in the Midwest and attended the University of Michigan, where she studied English and women's studies. After graduating from college, she worked as a journalist and activist before turning to writing full-time.
Umeh's writing has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, and other publications. She is a recipient of the Whiting Award and the Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award.
