About Susan Straight
Susan Straight is an award-winning author of novels, short stories, and essays. Her work has been praised for its lyrical prose, its nuanced exploration of character, and its unflinching honesty. Straight's novels include the National Book Critics Circle Award-winning Highwire Moon, as well as A Million Nightingales, The Next Big Thing, and Between Heaven and Here. She is also the author of two collections of short stories, I Been in Sorrow's Kitchen and Licked Out All the Pots and Black Women, Black Love, and a memoir, In the Country of Women.
Straight is a graduate of the University of California, Riverside, and the University of Iowa's Writers' Workshop. She has taught creative writing at the University of California, Irvine, and the University of Southern California. She is currently a professor of English at the University of California, Riverside.
