Erin Gruwell

Erin Gruwell was born in 1960 in Fullerton, California. She graduated from California State University, Long Beach, with a degree in English. After graduating, Gruwell worked as a substitute teacher at several schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. In 1994, she was hired as a full-time English teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School.

Gruwell's students at Woodrow Wilson High School were a diverse group of students who faced many challenges. Many of her students were from low-income families, and some had been involved in gangs or had been arrested. Gruwell's students were also struggling academically, and many of them were at risk of dropping out of school.

Despite the challenges, Gruwell was determined to help her students succeed. Woodrow Wilson High School
