In his new book, Networks And Power: From The Freemasons To Facebook, John Micklethwait explores the role of networks in history and in the modern world. Micklethwait argues that networks are the key to understanding power and influence, and that they have played a major role in shaping the course of human events.
Micklethwait begins his book with a history of networks, from the earliest days of human civilization to the present day. He shows how networks have been used to build empires, spread ideas, and wage wars. He also explores the dark side of networks, such as their role in the spread of disease and the rise of totalitarianism.
In the second half of his book, Micklethwait turns his attention to the role of networks in the modern world. He argues that the rise of social media has created a new kind of network that is more powerful and pervasive than anything that has come before. He explores the ways in which social media is being used to shape public opinion, spread propaganda, and even to wage war.
Networks And Power is a timely and important book that sheds new light on the role of networks in our world. Micklethwait's insights will be of interest to anyone who wants to understand the forces that are shaping the 21st century.
